It is designed for M8 nuts with a standardized wrench size of 13mm, therefore the hole has a size of 12,9mm.
That can be a tight fit, problably you have to press the nuts in with the help of the M8 screw from above.

I did not want to destroy the original mounting. Additionally, the original black plastic part is quite firmly attached to the poles and I didn't want to tear it off, so i designed my part around it.

Hey, question, what is the point of keeping the original part with the red screw? Why not take that out?
