Description
Fluval AC20 Modular Filter Basket – Improved Biological & Mechanical Filtration
This is a custom redesigned filter basket for the Fluval AC20, created to significantly improve filtration efficiency, modularity and ease of maintenance, while keeping full compatibility with the original filter body.
🔧 What’s different from the stock Fluval AC20 basket?
The original Fluval AC20 basket has limited flexibility and does not allow an optimal separation between mechanical and biological filtration.
This redesigned version introduces dedicated compartments, allowing a more logical and efficient filtration layout.
🧩 Filtration layout (bottom → top):
- Bottom compartment
Designed to hold the original Fluval sponge, acting as a coarse mechanical pre-filter to trap debris and protect the biological media. - Middle compartment
Sized for filter floss / perlon wool, improving fine mechanical filtration and keeping the upper biological stage cleaner for longer. - Top compartment
Dedicated to ceramic rings / biological media, maximizing surface area for beneficial bacteria and improving biological stability.
✅ Benefits
- Improved mechanical + biological filtration
- Better water clarity and stability
- Reduced clogging of biological media
- Easier maintenance and media replacement
- Fully modular and customizable
- Ideal for small aquariums and low-flow setups (e.g. Betta tanks)
🖨️ Printing notes
- Recommended material: PETG
- Supports required
- Designed for a snug fit inside the Fluval AC20 housing
This basket transforms the Fluval AC20 from a basic HOB filter into a highly efficient, modular filtration system, without modifying the original filter body.
