Extendable Katana Set - One-Hand & Two-Hand Versions

(A1 mini & A1 compatible)

A modular print-in-place katana project available in two sizes, designed for Bambu Lab A1 mini and A1 printers. Both versions feature extendable, segmented blades with a satisfying slide-out action and visible stepped sections.

The project is fully cross-compatible: if the blade length of the larger version feels too long, you can print the A1 mini blade segments and use them with the full-size handle.

One-Hand Katana – A1 mini Version (~90 cm, Extended)

A compact, agile katana optimized for A1 mini-class build volumes. When fully extended, the sword reaches approximately 90 cm and features a one-hand grip, making it ideal for fast handling and display.

Highlights

  • 🗡️ One-hand handle – sized for single-hand use.
  • 📏 ~90 cm total length when fully extended.
  • 🔁 Extendable segmented blade - smooth slide-out motion with visible steps.
  • 🖨️ A1 mini-friendly - parts arranged to fit smaller build plates.
  • 🔧 Print-in-place design with minimal post-processing.

Two-Hand Katana - A1 Version (~110 cm, Extended)

A full-length, two-hand katana designed for larger printers such as the Bambu Lab A1. With an extended length of approximately 110 cm, this version offers a more traditional long-sword proportion and an extended grip for two-handed stances.

Highlights

  • 🗡️ Two-hand handle - long grip for proper two-handed control.
  • 📏 ~110 cm total length when fully extended.
  • 🔁 Extendable segmented blade - smooth sliding action, stepped blade sections remain visible.
  • 🖨️ A1-compatible layout - optimized for larger build volumes.
  • 🔧 Print-in-place construction with minimal assembly.

Blade Compatibility Note

If the A1 version blade feels too long, you can print only the blade segments from the A1 mini version — they are fully compatible with the two-hand A1 handle.
This allows you to customize the sword’s final length while keeping the larger grip.

printed perfectly first time, end cap was a little difficult to fit, maybe a little more clearance needed.

This model is amazing! Kid is definitely going to love it. Although there are some troubleshooting comments saying the blade won't come out, is fragile, or breaks easily... I think those issues depend heavily on the user's specific environment, especially the filament quality. In fact, on my first print, the blade wouldn't come out, and when I tried to force it, it broke. However, when I re-printed just the blade part using official Bambu filament, it extended incredibly smoothly! It's perfect now. In the future, even if the blade breaks due to fatigue or wear and tear, it will be easy to fix just by re-printing the blade part. Thank you so much for sharing such a wonderful model!

Strength Issue:It's too weak, it comes off when you twist it, or the three lines on the back break a lot
Other Issues:The design is too perfect, the blade doesn't open easily, and I tried 3 times to make it like others but it didn't work and I just kept wasting filament

Is there a way to print it well? Even though the filament ran out… I also want to try using a 121cm katana!

Printed with PETG on A1 Mini and came out alright. since I didn't use the recommended filament, if anyone else uses PETG I would suggest pulling the print off the bed asap after printing before it has the chance to completely cool. This will let you have an easier time separating the layers. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
