Description

This model is not sponsored by Nevermore.

The Why

Most filters have a combined HEPA and activated carbon filter. But The activated carbon filter often expires way before the HEPA filter. Thus I searched for a separate HEPA and activated carbon filter. HEPA filter have a grade, where H14 let's the least amount of particles through (it captures 99.995% of particles). This grade of HEPA filter was hard to find in usable dimensions.

And so I stumbled upon Nevermore3d. A Github repository containing filters for VOC's created when 3D printing. This page explains why it is beneficial to filter for even low temperature filaments like PLA and PETG.

The What

Although it is better to circulate the air in the chamber through the filter, like the Nevermore models do. This design is there to filter out the exhaust air when printing low temp filaments (e.g. PLA, PETG, etc.).
So they pass through a filter as well.

This design is such that it has a low profile on the back of the printer. Only 75mm thick. Where the filtered air blows out in all directions except the back. This way you can still put the printer close to the wall.
I've tried to minimize the amount of parts, and the ease of use and installment when the filter or carbon pellets need to be replaced.

You can find resellers of the Nevermore HEPA H14 filter and Activated carbon that I used here

The How

Print in PETG or better thermal resisting filament. As the exhaust air will be warm. The seals are printed in TPU 90A.

You'll also need 4x BT3 x 10 self tapping screws. These will mount to the exhaust mounting holes. Be careful when tightening those, As you are screwing them in plastic. These can break when over tightening the screws.

Following are install instructions.

Installing the mount attached to the printer:

1.

Install the clips (At an angle)

2.

Both sides

3.

Place the TPU seal in the groove. This should stay in place by itself.

4.

Underneath the base the TPU wall seal

5.

Place he opening of the frame to the closest side of the printer.

6.

Use the BT3 self tapping screws. Make sure to not over tighten them, as they screw in plastic.

Preparing the activated carbon compartment:

1.

Glue the following components

2.

Add glue in the corner

3.

And on the spokes

4.

Press firmly

1.

Install Noot Noot. Use Noot Noot as a funnel to add the activated carbon.

2.

Do it outside or with proper respiratory protection! Shake and tap the unit to get the activated carbon in all corners as compact as possible.

3.

Secure the lid

4.

Add the HEPA H14 filter over the cylinder.

5.

Place the cap over the filter.Beware that it is normal there is still a gap. This gap will be gone when the box is installed.

6.

Slide the box in the slot.

7.

Push the lid in place and close the snap-fit clip. This compresses the foam part of the HEPA filter.

8.

Do the same on the other side.

9.
