Weller WE1010 - Skadis Board Mount

Description
Summary
Weller WE1010 IKEA Skådis Board Mount (WIP)
This Skådis-mounted variant of the Weller WE1010 holder was created at the request of another user and is provided as a work in progress until broader real-world fitment feedback is collected.
Through collaboration with the requesting user, multiple spacer configurations were evaluated to balance clearance, rigidity, and material efficiency.

Recommended Configuration (Read This First)
Spacer Bracket – Low Profile – Reverse Mounted (Recommended)
Through testing, it was determined that a 50% height, reverse-mounted spacer bracket — where the flat face of the spacer contacts the Weller bracket rather than the Skådis board — achieves the best overall result.
This configuration:
- Successfully routes power using a right-hand power cable (toward the center of the unit / spacer bracket)
- Significantly reduces filament use
- Lowers the mounting profile
- Reduces cantilever torsion applied to the Skådis board compared to taller spacers
👉 In ~99% of cases, this low-profile bracket is the correct choice.
Only use taller spacer variants if you have a specific clearance requirement (non-standard cables, obstructions, or atypical board spacing).
Features
- Low-profile spacer geometry optimized for rigidity and minimal leverage on the Skådis board
- Maintains adequate clearance for right-angle power connectors and rear ventilation
- Spacer extends to the bottom edge of the Weller bracket to reduce torsional load on fasteners
- Slotted mounting holes accept 7–9 mm washers and allow drop-through / printed Skådis nuts to be installed from the front
- Recessed bolt heads sit ~3 mm below the rear surface for a cleaner install and reduced snag risk
Hardware
- Fasteners:
- M3 or M4 × 60 mm recommended
- Nominal required length is ~56–58 mm depending on washer and nut style
- M3×60 is recommended for ease of sourcing and tolerance stack-up
- Washers:
- 7–9 mm OD flat washers required
- Nuts:
- Drop-in / printed Skådis nuts or equivalent
- Standard hex nuts may work but require rear access to the board
⚠️ Note: Extra bolt length may protrude behind the Skådis board. This is normal and typically clears the rear relief channel.
Materials & Print Settings
- Recommended materials: PETG, PA6-CF, PA12-CF
- PLA is not recommended due to long-term creep under load
- Printed honeycomb core is intentional to balance stiffness, weight, and print time
- No supports required
Print Orientation
STLs are oriented correctly as provided.
Print with the rear face of the spacer against the build plate.
Skådis Nuts (Future Release)
I have custom Skådis nuts prototyped that improve fitment and ease of installation.
If there is sufficient interest and willing testers, I will release these as an additional download once validated.
Notes / Limitations
- Minor side-to-side play may occur due to Skådis slot tolerances, especially with M3 hardware
- Skådis slots are spec’d at 5 mm — if your horizontal extrusion multiplier is off or your drop-in nuts are very tight tolerance, you may need to load nuts from the rear or lightly relieve material
- Intended for normal use (placing/removing the iron, plugging/unplugging cables)
- Not designed to support heavy lateral loads or abuse
- Feedback is welcome — this design may be revised based on user reports
If you do not need Skådis compatibility, use the standard under-desk mount instead.
