Description
Gen2 Toyota 4Runner Wiper Bolt Cap
WHY THIS MODEL?
I realize there may be one or two of you that need this, not tens, not hundreds or even thousands of you! But since I needed these caps, I figured someone else may need them as well!
One of the wiper bolt caps on my 1995 Gen 2 Toyota 4Runner broke and was lost. Fortunately, I had the other to reverse-engineer and 3D print a set. This model is a result of my reverse-engineering efforts.
IMPROVEMENTS OVER THE OEM VERSION
The OEM version has 3 semi-circular tabs to “hug” the wiper bolt and snap-fit on. This design lasted a good 25 years! But there’s a better way – design a cap that exactly fits the wiper bolt hexagonal head precisely!
This model has a dodecagon bolt head (12-point) cutout to allow a very snug press-fit on the existing ½” (12.7mm) bolt head. Once pressed on, it won’t come off under normal or even aggressive off-road driving conditions, yet you can pry it off with a flat-head screwdriver if needed.
THE MODEL
The 3D-printed wiper bolt cap uses a scant 3grams of filament and takes 20 minutes to print. I printed my set with FlashForge carbon-fiber PETG-CF filament (my absolute favorite CF filament). I chose a print layer of 0.17mm and a line width of 0.4mm vs the standard 0.45mm. These settings deliver smooth and more refined prints.
Thanks for looking at my model and good luck on your prints. Be sure to post a photo of your awesome completed prints to share with others!
