Description

Add something a little unexpected to your space: a modern tissue box that uses a toilet paper roll. I got the idea during a visit to Thailand, where using toilet paper as a tissue replacement is pretty common (and budget-friendly).

Smart lid design

The lid is designed for easy tearing of just the amount you need. It twists on with a smooth turn and has a subtle 7-point star-shaped opening in the centre. That shape helps snag and tear the paper cleanly—often without needing two hands.

How to load it

This container works by removing the cardboard core first:

  1. Pull the cardboard tube out of the roll.
  2. Place the roll into the container.
  3. Grab the paper from the inside of the roll and feed it through the star opening.

Why this method is great:

  • The roll doesn’t need to spin, so you get fewer snags and accidental tears.
  • You can gently squeeze the roll into place, even if it’s slightly larger than the opening.

It’s a simple trick—but it works beautifully.

 

Now updated + sized for standard rolls and parametric

 

This is an updated design, measured to fit a typical toilet paper roll of about 110 × 120 mm. It’s also now parametric, so you can easily adjust the size and look if your rolls (or your preferences) are different. Here are some of the standards as a guide:

Adjustable parameters (defaults are shown)

 

You can change the following parameters:

  • Container_InsideDiameter (inside diameter of container): default 120 mm
  • Container_InsideHeight (inside height of container): default 110 mm
  • Slot_Count (number of slots in the lid): default 7
  • Slot_Filet (rounding at the slot tips): default 8 mm
  • Slot_Margin (rim to start of slots):  default 20 mm
  • Lockshoulder_Angle (calculates length of locking slot + nose): default 30° (about 30 cm locking nose length)

What changes when you adjust things

 

Changing the height only affects the height—no other geometry is impacted.

 

Changing the diameter will trigger a few automatic and manual adjustments:

  1. The outside ribbing count increases/decreases automatically with the container diameter
  2. The lid diameter updates automatically
  3. The slot layout may need a little tuning: adjust Slot_Margin and Slot_Filet until the slots look and behave how you like

Locking nose a.k.a. locking slot length in the Rim
The lock geometry won’t “auto-scale” in the way diameter does, but you can control the length of the locking nose and slot by changing the Lockshoulder_Angle:

  • Increase the angle by 10° → increases nose/slot length by about 10 mm
  • Decrease the angle → shortens the nose/slot by a similar amount

Feel free to play around—my workflow was: set the numbers I want → regenerate → export → check the result in the slicer. Check out the differences if you change the Lockshoulder Angle, the Slot Margin and the Slot Filet 

 

Printing & slicer tips (important)

  • Split the model into objects in your slicer so you have a separate container and lid.
  • Flip the lid so the rim points upwards.
  • Do the same for the container (rim upwards).

This orientation helps reduce the amount of support material needed.

Note: I used BambuLab PLA Marble white for the Tissue Container you see in the pictures.

 

The model is now parametrized, so you can easily adjust the size and look to suit your needs.
