Description

Hello everyone,

We all know that keeping filament dry is the golden rule of 3D printing. But let’s be honest, wrangling those vacuum bags can be a surprisingly frustrating chore. Between trying to prop the bag up to get a good seal, holding the pump in place, and dealing with leaking bags, I knew there had to be a better way.

I’m excited to share my latest utility design: The Vacuum Bag Pump Station

The Problem Solver for Filament Storage

I designed this tool to address the specific annoyances I faced every time I stored a spool. It clamps securely onto the corner valve of your filament bag and transforms the entire process.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Perfect Elevation: The main issue I faced was using pumps on a flat surface was that it never worked properly without propping the valve up. This device features a detachable post that elevates the valve off the table, giving you perfect clearance for both hand and electric pumps.
  • Hands-Free Pumping: If you use an electric pump, you know the pain of holding it upright for minutes. The Assistant holds the pump securely in place for you, so you can just hit the button and walk away.
  • No More "Vacuum Rings": Many people put 3D printed rings inside the bag to help with suction. I’ve always suspected these internal rings stress the plastic, create creases, and potentially ruin the seal over time. My external design eliminates the need for them entirely (though it still works if you prefer to keep them!).
  • Protects Your Bags: By keeping the valve area flat and rigid, it prevents the bag from bunching and creasing during suction. This protects the integrity of the bag, meaning fewer leaks and longer-lasting storage.
  • Respects the "Fill Line": It keeps the mechanics outside the bag, ensuring you aren't overstuffing the "Do Not Fill Beyond This Point" corner, which is a common cause of seal failure.

Customisation

You can modify this model with the Parametric Model Maker tool. Below are the default values, hole location and diameter can be adjusted to suit your particular bags, the post/riser will update automatically.

Design & Printing

  • Print-in-Place: The main clamp features a print-in-place hinge mechanism. It comes off the build plate assembled and ready to work.
  • Simple Assembly: The elevation post prints separately and slots into the bottom.
  • Print Time: A quick and easy print, taking around 2 hours using Bambu PLA Basic.

Conclusion

This is one of those "little" tools that makes a big difference in the daily workflow. It makes sealing your filament faster, easier, and more reliable.

I hope it helps you keep your filament dry and your prints perfect!
