Why did the Brotherhood Knight get kicked out of the welding shop? . . . . Because he asked for the "Standard T-60 Special"—which is apparently just holding the chest plate on with some chewed gum and a "Trust Me" sticker from West Tek.

I'm sorry about your experience. I haven't had that happen to me. It is indeed more difficult to remove the supports from the finger area.
