Description

This model is designed to be printed without any supports, thanks to the continuous and self-supporting geometry of the arch. For best results, it is strongly recommended to dry your filament before printing: moisture can cause stringing and surface defects, which are especially noticeable on the thin, curved profile of the Arch. Properly dried filament will significantly improve surface quality and dimensional consistency along the curve.

The Gateway Arch is one of the most recognizable monuments in the United States and a defining symbol of St. Louis, Missouri. Completed in 1965, it was designed by architect Eero Saarinen as a monument to westward expansion and the historical role of St. Louis as the “Gateway to the West.”

Standing 192 meters (630 feet) tall, the Arch is the tallest man-made monument in the U.S. and the world’s tallest arch. Its form is a catenary curve, chosen for structural efficiency rather than decoration. This mathematically defined shape allows loads to be distributed evenly, making the structure both elegant and mechanically stable.

The monument is constructed from stainless steel over a reinforced concrete core. Its reflective surface changes appearance with light and weather conditions, reinforcing its minimalist and modernist character. Inside the structure, a unique tram system transports visitors to an observation deck at the top.

This 3D model emphasizes the Arch’s pure geometry and iconic silhouette, focusing on smooth curvature, symmetry, and structural clarity. It works well as a display object, architectural reference, or educational model demonstrating the connection between mathematics, engineering, and modern architecture.
