Description

Boost Me (for free)

I design tools to fix real-world problems as I find them. If this model was useful to you, a boost is a great way to say thanks and help me create more!

A fully customizable, ergonomic dispenser caddy for stained glass copper foil tape. I designed to keep my workspace organized, and because the options sold at crafts supply stores didn't fit my needs (and are too expensive lol).

Key Features

  • Ambidextrous Design: Tape outlet slots are located on both sides, so you can place the dispenser wherever it fits best on your desk.
    • šŸŽÆ I also made the holes slightly larger than what's sold at stores because I struggled to feed the tape through, it should be easier now, and you can change this if you want to!
  • Ergonomic Feel: Every edge is carefully filleted/curved to be smooth and pleasant to hold.
    • šŸ‘ØšŸ½šŸ”¬ I spent quite a while on the whiteboard using trigonometry to calculate the perfect angles and locations for the tape outlet fillets. I hope you enjoy the smooth finish as much as I enjoyed doing the math behind it!
  • Customizable: The model is parameterized. I have included the most common slot sizes (3mm - 20mm), but the design allows for adjustments.
    • āš™ļø Click the ā€œCustomizeā€ button to model your perfect caddy :)
    • šŸ¤” I couldn't figure out how to dynamically add or remove slots other than hardcoding the available sizes, but I did my best!.. If you're into programming and know how to do dynamic fields in OpenSCAD, please let me know :)

Included Print Profile (Default Configuration) The uploaded print profile comes with my preferred layout containing the following slot sizes: 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 8, 10 (mm).Ā

Foil Size Guide

  • 5mm Slot → Fits 3/16" foil
  • 6mm Slot → Fits 7/32" foil
  • 8mm Slot → Fits 1/4" foil
  • 10mm Slot → Fits Scalloped tape (wavy edge)

Note on Tolerances: I designed the slots to be virtually 1mm wider than the listed size because some of my cheap crappy rolls are too unevenly rolled, and they were getting stuck despite easily fitting inside.

Print Settings & Recommendations

  • Settings: 0.2mm standard profile.
  • Infill: 10% Crosshatch (the walls are thin, so the infill doesn't really matter, I just like Crosshatch 😊).
  • Adhesion: The provided profile does not have a brim because I use SuperTack/CryoGrip plates.
    • āš ļø Important: If you are not using a high-adhesion plate, I highly recommend adding mouse ears or a brim in your slicer, as the corners may lift slightly during printing and it will cause the tape caddy to wobble a little bit.
