Description

Pop-Up Storage Box | Press-to-Open Organizer is a compact round storage box designed for everyday small items like cotton swabs, toothpicks, gum, sweets, screws, or similar accessories.
Just press the top and the lid pops up, combining practical use with a clean and satisfying mechanism ✨

  • Simple assembly without glue or purchased parts – everything screws together easily
  • Clean and minimal design powered by a push-push mechanism
  • The mechanism includes a spring – PETG is recommended for printing the spring
  • Overall size: 61 mm diameter × 79 mm height - If there is interest, I can create additional size variants
  • Inner storage height: 65 mm
  • Printed without supports
  • Due to the fact that the plastic spring gradually loses its stiffness over time, I have created a new print profile (Pop-Up Box - Metal Spring)
If you are using the version with a plastic spring, the lid should be slightly lifted first and then pressed down when closing.

Update (19.12.2025): I have added a new version with an updated print profile designed for a metal spring, improving long-term reliability and overall functionality compared to the printed plastic spring version.

  • New print profile for a metal spring 0.6 × 12 × 70 mm
  • Updated version scaled to 88 mm overall height
  • Inner storage height increased to 75 mm
  • Lid travel increased to 20 mm for a stronger pop-up action
  • Metal spring is included in the Maker’s Essential Kit A
  • Metal spring provides more reliable performance than a plastic spring
  • Plastic springs can lose stiffness over time due to stress relaxation

Assembly instruction step by step👉:

  1. Insert 04_Spring and 03_Lever into the side hole of 07_Base.
  2. Insert 02_Center – the spring should snap into the rectangular groove inside 02_Center.
  3. Make sure the hook of 03_Lever is properly seated in the guiding groove of the mechanism.
  4. Lock the position of 03_Lever using 06_Stop, which is inserted into 02_Center.
  5. Screw on 05_Cover.
  6. Place the complete mechanism into 01_Case and screw it in place.

It doesn’t always seem to close and open, I have more of a hard time closing it than opening it, it’s good to store stuff away but for everyday practical usage…. it’s not ideal. 2/5 stars from me. (edit: it doesn’t close at all now)

Same here. For some reason the guide surfaces don't work reliably. It seems to go wherever it wants.

Hi, thanks for the review. The tension in the spring probably relaxed and the spring lost its stiffness in the upper position. I need to look into it and fix it. Could you please try to close the lid by first pushing it up to the stop and then down? The lid should then stay in the closed position. Please let me know if this is the case.

Replying to @MatthewGhost :
Hi, could you also check on the spring, it looses tension after like 5 cycles of opening and closing, maybe use a stronger struckture or make a kit that works with storebought springs. Otherwise great model though.

Hi, Great design, I would like to mention two improvements: - Make it bigger. When putting a few swabs it's difficult to close (maybe our swabs are larger). - You could add a way so then opened, it stays fully vertical. Maybe make the 02_base bottom base higher and add some guides on the base and the case. :-)

Pop-Up Box - Metal Spring
Took quite a bit of sanding and some modifications to operate correctly. See pic - had to super glue an extra piece of plastic to direct the long lever at the top of travel. Without out that, the design is such that it would ride over the diverter and get stuck above the notch. The lever piece isn't rigid enough. Sanding was needed because I printed lid and outer part with wood PLA... so not your issue. But you could improve the lever and mechanism to operate better. My glued-up version works well 99% of the time.

Hi, first thank for creating this. easy to print putting it together is very easy and doesn’t take long to print. However, can you please tell me the small part where it supposed to be at? In your instruction doesn’t show where to put this tiny part

Once assembled, the system doesn't work, the notch loses position

Don't expect too much.. haha It doesn't work perfectly, but it's more convenient than using the original square container. If there are too many contents, it won't close properly and you have to press it several times.. :D Boost for the designer who worked hard~!

In France, the same observation applies to cotton swabs. The box could be slightly enlarged in height (around 10 or 20%, no more). The closing mechanism does not work and gets stuck regularly. It's a shame because it's truly a beautiful creation. I am disappointed

interesting design overall, and I really like the concept. However, I noticed a few issues during testing.First, there doesn't seem to be quite enough width, and the overall height also feels slightly insufficient.I also noticed some issues with the mechanism, especially with the clearances. I think reducing some of the gaps by about 0.1 mm could improve the fit and movement.Additionally, I would make the lower moving platform slightly thicker, as it currently has a bit too much wobble during movement.

It looks really nice. But do not works as supouse to. There are issues with opening and closing- Maybe mine cotton swabs were too long, but I've a lot of issues while closing box.

bad small need above and the mechanism works once, you need to finish it with a file
