Il termine “shit happens” è un’espressione colloquiale inglese tanto semplice quanto potente, usata per indicare che nella vita capitano inevitabilmente cose spiacevoli, impreviste o fuori dal nostro controllo, e che a volte non resta altro da fare se non accettarle e andare avanti.Il suo significato va oltre la volgarità apparente, perché racchiude un atteggiamento realistico, quasi filosofico, fatto di rassegnazione, ironia e lucidità di fronte agli imprevisti dell’esistenza. L’espressione si diffonde soprattutto nel Novecento, entrando progressivamente nel linguaggio informale americano e diventando popolare tra gli anni Sessanta e Settanta, anche grazie a un clima culturale più diretto e disincantato. Un riferimento iconico che ha contribuito a fissarne lo spirito nell’immaginario collettivo si trova nel film Forrest Gump, quando Forrest pesta un escremento di cane e, con la sua ingenua saggezza, commenta semplicemente “It happens”, un momento che incarna perfettamente il senso della frase: non rabbia, non lamenti, solo la consapevolezza che certe cose capitano e basta. Da allora “shit happens” è diventata una sorta di mantra moderno, usato per sdrammatizzare errori, accettare la sfortuna e ricordare che l’imperfezione fa parte della vita, con un misto di cinismo e sorprendente serenità.
