Description

Boost Me (for free)

Feel free to leave a boost if you enjoyed the Gift Wrapping Bauble!

Let me guess: you’ve found the perfect small gift for a loved one, whether for Christmas or a birthday, but you’re missing wrapping paper or a nice way to present it? Let Welding Jar help you out with the Gift Wrapping Bauble!

This reusable ornament is a chic way to package small gifts while providing a delightful unboxing experience. No AMS needed! It’s print-in-place and only needs a bit of super glue.

You can either fill it to the brim:

Or use it to present your item tastefully:
(Pro tip: use a small piece of tape to secure the item on the pedestal.)

It can also double as a pedestal, transform into a cozy little lampshade for an LED tealight, or be used as a classic Christmas tree ornament, adding a warm and festive glow wherever it’s displayed!

Details

There are two versions of the Gift Wrapping Bauble:

  • A standard version using hexagonal dowels with a friction fit
(Note: the dowels may require a bit of force to loosen after printing)

  • A magnetic version for a sturdier, more tactile experience
    (requires 10 × 6×3 mm magnets)

Assembly

After printing all parts, apply a small amount of super glue to attach the wrapping band pieces and the magnets, being careful to note their orientation, into the designated cavities on each side piece.

(Note: As mentioned in the details, the dowels for the standard version may require a bit of force to loosen after printing, as they can be well stuck together. You can try to pry them apart by wedging something into the slit. Be careful and do not injure yourself!)

Then screw in the ribbon, and you’re done!
Congratulations on making your very own Gift Wrapping Bauble.

It's a nice project, I made magnet versions and interlocking versions, both work but there's a big error I advise the author to fix, the print speed varies too much leading to uneven surfaces, I'm attaching a screenshot of the print speed analysis from Slicer, as you can see the bottom part (which will be the top of the model) is very slow, rising abruptly as it goes up, and this causes the PLA to change sharply from glossy to matte, I tried with a Silk, worse than ever, I adjusted the speed by lowering it in the middle and the effect is smoothed out

Thank you very much for your advice! I am currently investigating this issue a bit, as it seems my wall speeds with any filament are much lower than yours, especially when slicing for silk filament. There might be a chance that this is associated with some other print settings. I will try to slice it with different settings and perhaps lock the outer wall speed to a fixed value as this seems to work as a solution to avoid these large speed changes. Thank you!

Thanks again for your input! I've slightly reduced the outer wall speed to guarantee both fixed speeds and a smooth change at lower heights. I've verified the changes with a silk filament and uploaded the files. Thank you very much for the hint!

Only had to print this once and it worked as advertised but the pressure fittings on the 'petals' were a real bear to 'crack' after printing and the connecting hex posts required careful filing to loosen them up to a usable level of friction. if you can afford it, I strongly recommend the magnetic version.

This is amazing and I have two things to say firstly how do you get the brims to detach so well for the outer glue on bits they just like it’s so perfect how? and also please add something to the description of like they really do get stuck stuck cause I had to spend like 10 minutes, trying to pull it apart before eventually prying it apart with a knife

Thank you very much! I generally use a deburring cutter or tool to remove brims. It's a very useful tool for exactly these kind of tasks. You could also try to print it without brim, but then there is a chance that the print wont stick to the plate. I will thank you! My most recent print was also very well stuck and I also used the scraper to free it! I will add it in the assembly section! Thanks again for the advice!😁

Very well done I must say, printing one myself, I've never really had anything on this scale before! At first, I thought it wouldn't work, luckily on the first try and it was just super! I couldn't take any more photos, it went straight out as a gift, for my daughter's teacher, so from my daughter (6 years old) who chose it, to her teacher! I used Bambu Lab Ice Blue (main body), with Prusa Galactic Red (loop).

Thank you very much for the great feedback and the boost! I am honored that my model was chosen by your daughter as a gift for the teacher! It is precisely these stories that motivate me to create more models! Best regards!
