Description

No-drill, clip-on camera mount designed for sliding window frames. Suitable for outdoor or indoor cameras with similar size and weight to the Tapo C217 pan/tilt camera. Ideal for temporary, renter-friendly, or non-permanent installations.

This design prioritizes window closure clearance, safety, and modular stabilization options.

UPDATE:

Compatibility

  • Compatible with any camera of similar weight and footprint to the Tapo C217
  • Standard flat-base camera mounts using screws or adapter plates
  • Not limited to a specific brand

Always verify:

  • Camera weight does not exceed what the clip can support
  • Mounting hole spacing and screw length are appropriate for your camera

Known Limitations – PLEASE READ

  • The window frame clip is intentionally thin to allow the window to slide and close. This increases the risk of snapping if excessive force is applied.
    • If the camera feels heavy, support it while closing the window.
  • For safety, route or wrap the power cable through the mount or around the clip so the camera does not fall if the clip fails.
  • In strong winds, some camera shake may still occur if guy-wires are not used or properly tensioned.
    • The mount remains secure, but footage quality can be affected without stabilization.
  • This design continues to evolve. Reinforced variants and optional accessories may be released in future revisions.

Features

  • Clip-on design for standard sliding window frames
  • No drilling or permanent modification required
  • Compression pocket for foam tape to help maintain window sealing
  • Adjustable camera mounting hole spacing for fit tolerance
  • Integrated guy-wire anchor holes to reduce wind-induced camera shake
  • Fully parametric FreeCAD design for easy customization
  • Designed for indoor use or sheltered outdoor installations

Wind Stabilization (Important)

To reduce camera shake in windy conditions, the mount includes two top anchor holes in the clip lip and two lower anchor holes near the camera mount.

These allow the use of non-elastic string, cord, or zip-ties to create a tensioned support system:

  • Run two cords (left and right) from the top clip holes to the lower holes
  • Pull the cords tight so the camera arm is slightly preloaded toward the clip
  • This forms a tension triangle that significantly reduces vibration

For best results:

  • Use nylon cord, paracord, or zip-ties
  • Avoid elastic materials
  • Apply light preload rather than excessive tension

Recommended Print Material

  • ABS-GF (glass-filled ABS) or another high-strength, heat-resistant filament
  • PETG-CF or similar stiff composites may also work
  • Avoid PLA due to heat sensitivity and brittleness, especially near windows

Recommended print settings:

  • 5–7 perimeters (walls)
  • 25–35% infill (gyroid or cubic)
  • Emphasis on wall thickness over infill density
