Description

🚗 3D-Printed Car Visor Extender – Adjustable, Locking, Fold-Away Design

If you’ve ever been blinded by low-angle sun that sneaks under the factory visor, you already know the problem.
This visor extender was designed to solve that exact gap, cleanly, securely, and without permanent modifications.

I originally designed this for my wife, who has sunlight sensitivity and visual discomfort. On drives, she was constantly shielding her face with whatever was nearby. Most visor extenders I found were either flimsy, bulky, or didn’t stay where you put them—so I designed my own.

✨ Key Features

Boost Me (for free)

If you found this helpful and want to help me continue developing please give me a boost! Thanks!

  • Rigid, friction-lock hinge
Tight tolerances and integrated grip bumps allow the extender to stay exactly where you set it. No flopping, no drifting while driving.
  • Fully foldable
    The extender can be folded:
    • Upward (hidden behind the visor)
    • Downward (out of the way)
    • Or deployed for extra sun coverage
It integrates naturally with the existing visor.
  • Clip-on, no tools required
Designed to clip onto most standard car visors without screws or permanent changes.
  • Secure locking system
Tolerances are TIGHT! Slide the visor through the clips until the locking channel is fully engaged, then insert the locking clip to secure everything in place.
  • Printable on common printers
    Fits within a 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume.

🧱 Materials & Print Recommendations

  • Recommended: ABS, ASA, or PETG
These materials offer better heat and UV resistance, which is critical inside a car.
  • PLA: Works for testing or short-term use, but not recommended for long-term installation due to heat deformation.
  • No supports required (depending on orientation)
  • Designed with real-world tolerances for smooth assembly

🧩 Assembly Notes

  1. Print all parts.
  2. Slide the extender into the visor clips back and forth (tightly, there are bumps in the design to make it tight) until the locking channel is fully seated.
  3. Insert the locking clip to secure the assembly.
  4. Adjust hinge position to your preferred angle.

Once set, the hinge holds firmly without needing re-adjustment.

🛠 Why This Design?

I looked for a visor extender that:

  • Stayed in place
  • Didn’t look bulky or awkward
  • Folded away cleanly
  • Was simple and durable

I couldn’t find one that checked all those boxes—so I built this instead.

This is my first original design and my first MakerWorld upload, and it was created to solve a real, everyday problem. If it helps you or someone you care about drive more comfortably, then it’s done its job.

⭐ Feedback Welcome

If you print this, I’d love to hear:

  • What material you used
  • How it fits your vehicle
  • Any suggestions for improvements

Photos, ratings, and makes help a lot—and help others decide if this solution works for them too.
