Gap Guard — The Door Gap Stopper—Updated V2.0!

Version 2.0 of the Gap Guard is here! Rounded edges for comfort and a redesigned catch that slides easier into the catch plate and extends further into the door frame. Additionally, V2.0 is now compatible with door latches that have rear safety pins, and due to an overall size increase, the Gap Guard provides additional wiggle room for various types of door catch mechanisms. 

Along with the new 2.0, there is a new longer version of the Gap Guard that allows small pets to access the room while still retaining the same useful qualities that the Gap Guard provides. 

The Gap Guard is a removable, non-invasive door-latch accessory designed to keep a door slightly open for ventilation while preventing the passage of small pets or children. It attaches directly over a standard U.S. interior door latch and edge—no tools, screws, or adhesives required—and uses a simple extension arm that catches in the strike-plate recess to hold the door at a fixed partial opening. This setup lets fresh air and sound move freely through a room while maintaining safety and privacy.

Unlike typical strap-based or magnetic door blockers that wear out or damage surfaces, Gap Guard installs in seconds and removes just as easily, leaving the door and frame untouched. It provides a simple way to ventilate hot or stuffy rooms—like those used for cooking, laundry, or cleaning with chemicals—without leaving the door wide open. By maintaining a consistent gap, the device balances air pressure, improves comfort, and helps keep HVAC systems from overworking. 

In use, the main body slides over the door’s edge and clamps around the latch area. As the door closes, the extension arm’s “catch” rests securely in the strike plate, locking the door in that position. To disengage, simply flex or pull the arm outward—it pops free instantly, allowing normal operation. The fit works universally with 35 mm interior doors ***DOES NOT WORK WITH DOOR CATCHES WITH EXTRA SECURITY PINS*** **V 2.0 solves this problem**, and the design avoids any mechanical fasteners or adhesives that could weaken over time. 

Gap Guard's non-permanent, tool-free nature makes it especially friendly for renters, apartment dwellers, or homeowners who want functional airflow and pet control without altering hardware.

Typical use cases include ventilation mode for heat relief, pet restriction for cats or small dogs, and child-safety mode to block toddlers while letting sound and airflow through. It can also serve during cleaning or fumigation sessions when ventilation is essential.
