HO Scale Ballast Blocker – Track Detail Protection Insert
This HO Scale Ballast Blocker is a simple but highly effective detail tool designed to keep ballast out of areas where it doesn’t belong. The thin insert fits between the rails and ties, creating a clean barrier while ballasting your track.
It’s ideal for locations where loose ballast can interfere with appearance or operation, including:
- Turnouts / switches
- Road and grade crossings
- Paved or concrete track sections
- Industrial spurs and shop areas
- Any section where exposed ties or smooth surfaces are desired
Printing Notes
- Prints flat with no supports required
- PLA is sufficient, but PETG works well for added durability
- Use a fine layer height and a 0.2 mm nozzle for a more precise print
- For one-time use, printing with thinner layers can make the part easier to remove after ballasting
Usage Tips
- Place the blocker in position before applying ballast
- Ballast and glue as normal
- Allow everything to fully dry before carefully lifting the piece out
- Light touch-up may be done after removal if desired
This is a small but extremely useful tool for anyone ballasting HO scale track and looking for cleaner results with less frustration.
