Description
Design Concept
The air in northern winters is very dry, so a humidifier is needed. Ultrasonic humidifiers have problems with microorganisms and chemicals, posing respiratory risks. Large evaporative humidifiers on the market are too expensive; for example, the Mijia Humidifier 3 costs around 1500 yuan. The design goal is to achieve 80% of its functionality at 1/10 of its price.
Disassembling the humidifier components: water tank, fan, water pump, control board, and filter element. Each part is explained below.
Water Tank: Since the DIY humidifier I previously made using a pet water dispenser (4L water tank) basically required daily refills (I personally open windows for ventilation every day, so indoor humidity is low). I chose a larger water tank to meet my need for multiple days of use with a single refill. A 25L water tank costs 34 yuan.
Fan: Supports 14cm or 16cm case fans. The 14cm case fan I tested costs 17 yuan, with an airflow of 109 CFM and noise of 38dB. A 16cm case fan costs 80 yuan, with an airflow of 160 CFM and noise of 39dB. Both can meet basic needs; from a cost-performance perspective, the 14cm case fan is better, while from a performance and quietness perspective, the 16cm case fan is better. It's up to you to choose. Other types of 14cm/16cm fans with 14cm standard mounting holes can also be installed.
Water Pump: 5v brushless silent water pump. Purchase the 1m head version and turn the flow control to maximum for perfect use. There is basically no noise. It costs 12 yuan.

Control Board: Self-made DC port 12v PWM and 5v USB speed controller. Search on Xianyu for [Weiyunba's Workshop] to purchase; it costs 24.9 yuan. Compared to buying a 12v PWM speed controller and a 5v USB speed controller separately, it reduces the use of one charger and occupies one less socket. It can be replaced by one 12v PWM speed controller, one 5v USB speed controller, plus two power supplies.
Filter Element: Mijia 3pro filter screen, with a humidification capacity of 1500ml/h, sufficient for most scenarios. It costs 42 yuan. I won't provide a link for this filter element; just search for [Mijia humidifier 3pro filter element] yourself and buy whichever is cheapest.
Total price excluding printed parts is:
14cm fan version: 34+17+12+25+42=130
16cm fan version: 34+80+12+25+42=193
Basically meets the requirements.
Printing Settings
Printer models: k2, k2pro, and k2plus can all print. Layer height is 0.32mm, infill density is 100%. Considering durability, PETG/ABS is recommended for printing. These printing settings have been tested and basically meet the requirements for strength and no leaks.
Assembly Instructions
The fan adapter board can be installed using the screws that come with the fan; countersunk holes are made for a perfect flush fit.
The water pump needs to be connected to the filter element using the water pump adapter sleeve; please remove the water pump's original adapter sleeve before using the custom one.
Because the water pump is installed at the bottom of the filter element, it raises the filter element slightly. Therefore, a riser is designed to keep the filter element level, and the water pump can be placed in the notched position of the riser.
Both the 14cm and 16cm fans I purchased use 14cm fan mounting holes. If your purchased 16cm fan does not have 14cm fan mounting holes, it will not be supported for installation.
Notes
Since atmospheric pressure is used to achieve automatic water outflow, when purchasing a water tank, make sure it is a sealed model (can be inverted when filled with water); it is recommended to ask customer service for clarification.
For the water pump, it is recommended to choose a 5v brushless water pump; actual tests show that brushed water pumps are not durable and I've broken two or three.
For 14cm and 16cm fans, you can choose the one with better cost-performance; any fan that supports 14cm mounting holes will work normally.
