Description

This is a modified version of Bas van der Ploeg's AirPods Max stand to include support for wired USB-C charging.

Unlike other designs, this model doesn't take a wireless charging approach that requires magnets and charging adapters. Because I wanted to retain the ability to use my AirPods wired for desktop use and avoid having a wireless charging adapter that occupies the USB port, I opted to use the original cable that comes in the box and press fitted it into a printed stand. Just line up the port and click it into place!

It is designed to use the Apple USB-C cable that came with the AirPods but I've included a step file incase you want to modify the fit for a different cable.

Keep in mind that it is quite a tight fit when pressing in the cable in but with the help of some tools to press against the outer shell of the connector and some light taps it should seat nicely.

slot doesn’t allow cable to sit flush with original cord and slot is a little bit too small will need to sand to fit.

has anyone tried this with the original, Lightning AirPods Max?

I tried it, unfortunately it doesn't fit. The USB C fits, but the cable can't be bent as sharply as would be needed

But with no magnets this is not going to sleep mode, or i am wrong?

sleep mode is meant for saving battery while they sit idle. This is a charging stand, it charges the battery while they sit idle.

If not using the charger part, sleep mode will kick if they’ve been idle for 5 minutes anyway

The space for the cords is too small and wouldn't fit. I had to sand it multiple times until it could get close to fitting. I used the original airpods cords. Other than that, sanding it and cutting it open seemed to fix the issue. (Not actually reliable, so better to improve the design itself).

I've added a profile for a .2mm widened variant that should make it easier to install, though I can't speak to the longevity of the connection as the cable could potentially back out.

what are the dimensions of the (enlarged) cable end slot?

AirPods fit but I tried multiple cords and none were even close to fitting through the slot. that and the cutout for the cord need to be slightly larger to be functional

it's designed for the cord that the airpods came with

One possibility for filling with sand or ballast weight for a firmer stand would make the design perfect :)

solid print, i recommend the loose fit one for lightning charger because the normal doesnt fit a standard apple charger
