Description

This model is a 3D-printed replacement version based on a metal spindle saver I found and tested.
I recreated the geometry in CAD to offer a printable alternative that’s lightweight, affordable, and easy to install – while still providing real protection.

On the Honda CRF300L, a left-side crash often forces the shift lever into the ground. The impact transfers directly to the gear shifter spindle, which can bend or break. When this happens, the gearbox may get stuck in one gear and the bike becomes unrideable.

This 3D printed spindle saver forms a rigid protective barrier, absorbing and redirecting crash forces before they reach the spindle. It mounts to the factory points and requires no permanent modification.

Features

  • Protects the gear shifter spindle from bending or breaking
  • Helps prevent gearbox lockup after a crash
  • Lightweight but strong 3D-printed design
  • Bolt-on installation (uses factory mounting points)
  • Developed specifically for Honda CRF300L / CRF300 Rally
  • Tested in off-road and enduro conditions
  • Designed for FDM 3D printing

Recommended Print Settings

  • Material: PETG, Nylon (PA12), or PA-CF for maximum strength
  • Infill: 100%
  • Walls / Perimeters: 3
  • Orientation: print on its side for better Z-layer strength

This is a simple, inexpensive upgrade that provides real crash protection – ideal for enduro, trail, dual-sport, and ADV riders using the Honda CRF300L.

print went good. printed with pteg. the inner diameter is a little bigger then the Axel. but this is needed in order to install the sprocket cover. I have an aftermarket shift lever, but it was very hard to install. first remove the sprocket cover and shift lever, install the spindle saver and install the shift lever. install the bolt on the shift lever loosely pull it as far towards you as possible, and try to place the sprocket cover, this is hard to do, but possible. I still need to ride and check if it doesn't melt on me. but all in all, fits good and I hope it does its job edit: after seeing the photo, I do notice that the bottem does not hit the gearbox. there is still space. so it should be a little bit larger I think. the depth of the cutout part

Replying to @Pwn00x :
That's great! If there were any photos after printing and installing it on the motorcycle, that would be great... before I buy nylon filament. Thank you.
