Description
A huge, modular heart frame for making large-scale Christmas or winter decorations.
The assembled heart is about 1 meter (3 feet) wide, designed to be seen from a distance – perfect for the garden, driveway, or front of the house.
This is a simple, robust base for big seasonal statements – easy to print, quick to assemble, and fun to decorate.
Design & parts
- Modular build in 10 pieces
- Printed from 3 plates
- Parts are approx. 10 mm thick (slightly less than ½ inch)
- Dovetail joints for easy alignment and a sturdy shape
- No supports needed on most printers (flat parts), although a brim is added to avoid the parts moving around
Assembly
- Print all parts.
- Remove the brim – either by using your fingers or a small set of pliers
- Slide dovetail joints together to form the full heart.
- Left side is mirror of right
- See the drawing and note the difference between dovetail orientation, left and right side.
- All parts must face same face up as printed. Easiest to ensure with e.g. a texture plate
- Secure every joint with strong tape (canvas/gaffa/duct tape).
- The dovetails align the pieces; the tape provides long-term strength, especially outdoors.
Material recommendation
Print in PETG or another weather-resistant material. PLA will work for indoor use, but can deform or become brittle outside.
Decorating ideas
- Wrap a string of lights around the frame
- Add fir branches/greenery, ribbon, cones, or ornaments
- Mix lights + greenery for a classic festive look
Mounting the Heart
Mount with a weather resistent string or similar. Enjoy!
