Description

A sanding cylinder (drum sander) for European lathes with an M33×3.5 spindle thread — a size that's surprisingly hard to find off the shelf, so I designed my own.

Design details

The cylinder is designed to use 12 cm sandpaper strips, which is a standard size that's easy to source. You can choose whatever grit works best for your project.

A few thoughtful features built into the design:

  • Circumference ruler included — makes it easy to cut your sandpaper to exactly the right length without guessing
  • Double-sided tape gap — there's a recess around the cylinder sized to fit standard double-sided tape, so the sandpaper adheres cleanly and stays put
  • No raised edges or seams — because of the tape recess, the surface stays flush with no bumps or peaks that could cause vibrations during use

If this saved you the headache of hunting down an M33 sanding attachment, a boost would be much appreciated — it helps me keep designing tools that fill the gaps! 🙏
