Description

This is a stand to hold a 8.25 qt bain marie stainless steel barrel with a charred oak lid pressed into it.  There are several commercial sellers of this product but I make my own

 

Dowel Version:

 

This model requires a ¾ inch dowl for side supports. Important to insert the dowel from chamfered end of the hole.  You will need some sort of hammer to hit the dowel in as its a very tight fit. Make sure the orientation of the radius is correct before entering the dowl into the second piece. Once the dowl is in you will not be able to get it out. I cut my dowels to 9.25 inches to fit the baine marie. I made the back piece taller than the front in hopes that this would allow the liquid in the barrel to contact the oak lid even after there has been some volume loss from the angels share.  This causes the barrel to be tipped forward a bit.  I built in some stoppers to hold the rim of the barrel just in case it slips forward. Its pretty secure once on the stand but better safe than sorry. These dovetail stoppers are pretty tight but you could add a dab of CA glue if it feels loose. It is easiest to insert the stoppers from the bottom.

 

No Dowel Version:

 

I made a version that does not require a dowel. The strut bars slide into the two ends with a dove tail.  I have found that the tolerance of this fit can very quite a bit with different materials. I made different offsets of the dovetail slot including zero offset, 0.025 mm, and 0.05 mm. I found no offset worked well with Bambu PETG basic and 0.05 mm worked well with Bambu PETG HF. I also included a test piece for each tolerance so you can try out different offsets before committing to the entire model and wasting filament.
