Boost Me (for free)
I am providing this FREE of charge to solve a $50 problem. All I ask is that you please boost me as a token of your appreciation to show your support.
For anyone that has a Popur x5, you have two options. Pay $50 every year or two when the trash lid gear strips and breaks, or you can now fix it permanently.
I have many design & testing hours and a lot of filament into this design. It is 100% my own design and yes, I could make money off of this, but that's not what I nor this community is about. Happy fix'n y'all!
This upgraded design fully encompasses the housing screw bracket which makes the shaft housing fully secured and the drive shaft has been upgraded from the original 6.8mm to 9.5mm to resolve the “designed to fail” original design. The shaft has also been lengthened a to fully engage the housing approximately 20mm instead of the measly 5mm for the original design. Below is an example of what usually happens when the shaft sheers off and mangles and also breaks the bracket as well as a view of the upgraded design.

I recommend printing the shaft with 100% fill and with a strong material such as PETG, Nylon, or ABS.
You will need to cut off the original bracket. Using a hacksaw takes a few seconds. I have included a printable guide to help remove the excess material from the original mount (which is likely damaged as they always are) using a Dremel or similar tool to clean up the housing. This does not have to be perfect so long as the hole is large enough to allow the inner housing to rotate freely.

READ CAREFULLY: Upon reassembly, the unit needs to be assembled in what is essentially the “closed” or L shaped position shown in the 2nd and 3rd image below. If you assemble incorrectly, it can bind up and it may strip the gears. Please ensure you know what you are doing, and do so at your own risk.

When printing, I had to add a number of manual supports. This is due to printing at 45 degrees to allow for all the holes to be printed support free. Feel free to adjust as needed, but if you remove the supports, be ready for the part to break lose during printing.

If you want to use this commercially you MUST contact me, but please feel free to use it for yourself or a friend ONLY if performing free of charge.
