Description

This is a life size model of a lion (Panthera leo) cranium and mandible, originally made available by the Mammal Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences under CC-BY license. I found the model on Sketchfab, but I downloaded the original models from the Open Forest website

My changes:

I cleaned up the models to make them 3D printable by closing holes, removing floating pieces and decimating to reduce the file size.

Printing:

  • 0.20 mm layers,
  • 3 walls,
  • 8% grid infill,
  • tree supports at 30
    • top interface spacing = 0
    • top interface layers = 2
    • top z distance = 0.2

I printed mine with Sunlu matte bone white PLA on the Bambu A1. The occipital looks a little rough, but this area is also damaged on the original scan so it's already rough. I decided to position the mandible on its inferior surface so the teeth could print very pointy. Cranium takes about 16.5 hours, mandible is 5 hours. You could reduce the walls to 2 to reduce the print time--I wanted the weight. It's big but totally worth it. :)

Generic 3mf on Printables.
