Description

This 3D-printed thread saver is designed specifically for New Brothread “Huge” embroidery thread spools.

Its primary purpose is to grip and secure the loose end of the thread, preventing it from unraveling or tangling when the spool is not in use. The angled, tapered slits provide a controlled friction grip while still allowing the thread to be inserted and pulled out cleanly.

The insert also happens to give the spool a slightly more stable footprint, since it gives the spool a flat bottom.

This model was dimensioned directly from the real spool using calipers and tuned for a firm press fit. It was printed and tested on a Bambu Lab P1S using Bambu Basic PLA (Bambu Green) with standard settings. PLA fits snugly as designed; PETG may require a small negative scale (-0.5% to -1%) depending on your machine.

Ideal for embroiderers who want a clean, simple way to keep thread tails under control and prevent tangles during storage or transport.

This worked perfectly on my Madeira 5500 yard cones, and I added the thread color number so it was easy to identify which red was the red I was looking for (or white in this case). Finally my thread wall is organized and the colors are easy to find. Now I just need longer peg wall hooks.

Tried this size on my other huge embroidery thread spools (different brands). I knew it wouldn't fit exactly. I made tons of the original small design for my small Brothread spools. When I get some time, I'll try doing the percentage adjustments to see if it will fit my other large spool brands. Even the same brand of thread uses different sized spools over time. The latest ones I've been buying for years now uses smaller diameter spools at the base.

Worked on some of my NewBrothread cones, but not all of them. I'd love some of these for SimThread, Exquisite, and Floriani big cones if you ever try!
