Description

Parametric 3-Way Connector (OpenSCAD + 4 geometry variants)

A fully customizable 3-way connector for rods/dowels — ideal for modular builds, STEM projects, prototyping, construction toys, fixtures, and quick experimental joining.

This model is part of my Modular Connectors system, designed for building flexible, scalable structures from simple elements.

The OpenSCAD source is included so you can tune dimensions to your use case:

  • Rod/dowel diameter (parametric)
  • Wall width / thickness
  • Overall scale
  • 4 geometry variants included:
    ▸ Flat bottom
    ▸ Flat bottom + ribs
    ▸ Rounded bottom
    ▸ Rounded bottom + ribs

Strength & Printability

The flat-bottom versions are structurally the strongest and also the easiest to print — great bed adhesion + no supports required.
Variants with ribs add additional stiffness and load capacity, especially useful for mechanical/structural applications and longer lever arms.

Rounded versions look visually cleaner, but may require supports depending on printer tuning.

Printing Recommendations

  • Orientation: flat face on the build plate for flat variants
  • Supports: none for flat variants, normal snug support for rounded bottom variants, brim for smaller connectors for better bed adhesion
  • Layer height: 0.16–0.24 mm
  • Perimeters: 3–4+ for toughness
  • Infill: 15–40% (gyroid or grid ideal)
  • Material: PLA OK, PETG recommended for high stress

If you print or modify this connector — share your makes!
I’d love to see your diameters, wall thickness experiments, multi-connector builds and real-world uses.

If you like modular functional and STEM projects, follow for upcoming models.

can you design this connector

HI, I can work on it, and let you know once it's done. Are all arms intended for the same rod/pipe diameter (I am asking as the arm looking towards the camera seems a bit smaller in diameter than the other tree)?

any chance of printing a 3-way corner with 2x22mm sockets and 1x25mm? (doesn’t need the adjuster screw in photo)

A 4-way connector with fixed geometry as the one above is now published, as well as a 20 mm diameter print profile. I hope it helps 🙂 https://makerworld.com/en/models/2730566-customizable-4-way-connector-fixed-geometry

I love this. I have to replace some broken joints like this and I was going to try and make one in CAD (that I don't know how to use). I just need figure out how to bend one leg about 5 degrees.

It's perfectly something that I was looking for! But could you add 22 mm one? It also could help a lot! 🔥

Sure, what's your rod/tube diameter so I can prepare the print profiles for that dimension as well?

3/4 inch dont know how to describe the angles but this si the orientation with 2 angles at 90 and one at 120? is suck at math and geometry sorry. But thanks so much really appreicate it.

The model is ready, and available at the link below. I prepared a 3/4 inch profile with various angles. Depending on your needs, you may want to consider a larger wall thickness, and for outside use PETG at least would be needed (ASA optimally based on people's suggestions). I hope this helps and solves the problem 😀. Let me know about the outcome 😀. https://makerworld.com/en/models/2188041-customizable-3-way-connector-adjustable-xy-angle

No problem, the design is what I was looking for and it prints perfectly. One suggestion, maybe to widen the wall between the joints and put a hole for the screw so some kind of screen can be mounted.

I'm happy to hear that it helped. This is a great idea, I'll definitely work on it.

Do you happen to have a "T" design as well? I bought a used baby enclosure and it didn't have the fittings. The corners are perfect but I also am looking for a good T design
