Description

3D-Printed Violoncello – Modern Materials, Classic Sound

This innovative 3D-printed violoncello combines traditional musical craftsmanship with modern fabrication. Designed for makers, musicians, and educators, it features a fully printable structure with only a handful of easily sourced hardware components required.

Key Features

• 3D-Printed Body & Neck (PETG)
The main body and neck are printed from durable PETG, offering excellent strength, stability, and resonance while remaining lightweight and reliable for everyday playing.

• 3D-Printed Fingerboard, Bridge & Tailpiece (ASA)
Critical tonal components are printed in ASA for enhanced stiffness, wear resistance, and long-term dimensional stability—ideal for smooth fingerboard action and precise string support.

• Striking Black-and-White Contrast
A bold two-tone aesthetic highlights the instrument’s modern construction. The PETG and ASA parts complement each other visually, giving the cello a clean, contemporary look unlike any traditional build.

• Minimal Additional Hardware Required
Beyond the printed components, only a few standard parts are needed to complete the instrument:
– Aluminum tubing
– 10 mm steel rod
– Strings

– Bass guitar tuning keyes
– Bow
– Basic connecting hardware

All other structural and functional elements are fully 3D-printed, making this project highly accessible to makers with standard print capabilities.
