Description
The Terracotta Warriors are a collection of life-sized clay figures of the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China, created to protect him in the afterlife. Begun in 246 BCE, they were buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE as part of his massive tomb complex. The army was accidentally discovered in 1974 by farmers digging a well, revealing the largest and most important tomb site in China, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
