DIY Ground Fridge System for Ø200mm Pipe & M10 Rod
Print Profile(1)

Description
Keep your drinks and snacks cool naturally using the earth's stable underground temperature! This modular system is designed to fit inside a standard Ø200mm sewage pipe buried vertically in the ground. The shelves are spacious enough to accommodate most standard cans, beer bottles, and even larger wine bottles.
Performance: During summer tests, the internal temperature remained at approximately 15°C (59°F) when the outside air temperature was 30°C (86°F).
Bill of Materials (Hardware to buy): Before starting, you need to source a few hardware store items:
- 1x Ø200mm PVC Pipe (approx. 1 meter length, or deeper if you prefer).

1x End Cap for the Ø200mm pipe. Important: The pipe must be sealed at the bottom before burying it to prevent ground water ingress.

- 1x M10 Metric Threaded Rod (1 meter length, stainless steel recommended).
3D Printed Parts & Assembly:
- Fully Threaded Design: All printable components (shelves, handle, etc.) feature internal M10 threading throughout their entire height.
- Tight Tolerance: The thread is designed to be a tight fit. This is intentional to ensure the shelves hold their position firmly without slipping.
- Printing Tip: If you find the thread is too tight due to your printer's calibration, try slightly scaling up the parts in the X and Y axes only (e.g., by +0.5% or +1%) in your slicer.
Customization:
- Modular: The system is fully configurable. You can print as many shelves as you need and space them out anywhere along the threaded rod.
- Accessories: I have also included files for custom storage boxes/containers designed to fit perfectly onto the shelves.
