Hey there! ✨

I had this idea to design a pinecone-looking lantern for this Christmas as a tree ornament (cause you know, a glowing little pine peeking through branches is so damn cute). But I failed, I failed miserably at being basic, and my inner demons took over and made the pinecone super ornamental and Victorian-looking.

So, it turned into this wonder-globe, over the top, and dramatic lantern that is just a pinecone in spirit (but still a glowing, cute tree ornament).

After my plan for a basic pinecone failed, I changed the goals to creating a vintage, wood-carved looking globe that still feels cozy and can also act as a tabletop tealight holder. To achieve the look, I designed it very light with thin walls (so it glows even if you use normal or matte filament).

Print suggestions:

  • This print doesn't need supports, but I recommend enabling the “Outer Brim” option.
  • Print with 0.2 layers, 10% infill, and 3 walls.
  • The tolerance for the fit of the two parts is pretty tight, so if your printer prints a little undersized, you may need to enlarge the top part by 2 to 3 percent to achieve the desired tight fit closure.

Assembly suggestions:

  • Clean the two pieces carefully after printing, push the tealight candle into the bottom part (make sure the light switch is aligned with the opening), and close the lantern.
  • I suggest using a little bit of hot glue between the tealight and the bottom part of the lantern. This way, it'd be more secure in place and won't move in case of accidental upward pressure while turning on and off the light switch.

I hope you enjoy it, and happy printing! 🥂:)
