Description
The Barberini Faun is one of the most expressive sculptures of Hellenistic art, known for its dynamism and emotional charge. It depicts a faun—a mythological creature, half-man, half-satyr—in a deep sleep, reclining with a relaxed body and a completely naturalistic posture.
The work stands out for its detailed anatomical modeling: muscles tense even at rest, a twisted torso, and a posture that conveys vulnerability and humanity. His face, softly tilted to one side, reflects a deep, almost inebriated sleep, typical of Dionysian iconography.
