Description
3D Printed Tailwheel Assembly for 40% Scale RC Aircraft
This is a set of 3D printable parts designed for building a functional tailwheel (rear landing gear) for radio-controlled aircraft at 40% scale. The assembly includes:
- Wheel hub (disk)
- Wheel holder/mount
- Rubber tire
Recommended Materials:
- Wheel hub and holder: PETG or carbon fiber–reinforced filament (for increased strength and rigidity) (3 perimeters , 25% infill)
- Tire: Flexible filament such as TPU or TPE (to provide realistic shock absorption and grip) (2 perimeters, 5% infill)
Additional Features
- A brass bushing made from 4×0.5 mm brass tubing is press-fitted into the center of the wheel hub to provide greater durability and reduced wear.
- After assembly, the wheel hub is glued to the tire using CA (cyanoacrylate) adhesive.
This setup provides a durable and lightweight tailwheel solution, ideal for large-scale RC model aircraft. All parts are optimized for 3D printing and suitable for use with most FDM/FFF printers.
