Description

Front Desiccant Boxes for AMS and AMS 2 Pro

Have you tried weaving the Silica Boxes for your AMS? Okay... having them woven by a 3D printer!😅👍

 

To complement my AMS 2 Pro Dry Box for the rear compartment, I designed a set of front boxes. They are designed to be as airy as possible, allowing the silica gel to extract moisture from the AMS quickly and easily.

 

👌It was also important to me that the vertical walls could be printed with ventilation holes without the need for “extensive retraction” and “countless seams” for each layer on a 3D printer.

My silica gel is good, but also very small, and it was important to me that even the smallest beads stayed securely inside - this technique works perfectly for that: In my boxes, the walls consist mostly of a single line (!), but this line is printed in a clever zigzag pattern, creating small ventilation holes in between. Separate areas were built in for the seams (only one seam per layer!) to hide them effectively. This results in clean, lightweight yet strong walls that are also highly “breathable”. The 3D printer simply prints layer by layer, almost like in spiral mode! The entire process is quiet, very smooth, and filament-efficient!

 

ℹ️ The boxes can be easily removed without having to remove the spools from the AMS!

 

All round hygrometers on the market will work (the cutouts are universal) - but I prefer the ones from Bambu Lab Shop - they have a nicer numbers on the display 😊👍

 

I've noticed that refilling the small, side-mounted silica gel boxes isn't so easy – the little silica gels tend to spill out. I made the funnel for all small side-mounted boxes in the set. You can find it in Print-Profiles here! 🖐️😊

Better print one of my print profiles - all settings, seams, color objects are very well tuned there!

⚠️Filament: PLA is good enough! But if you want to leave the box in the AMS 2 pro while the filament is drying - please print it with PETG/ASA/ABS for higher temps!

 

⚠️Easy way to remove this Dry Box from the build plate after printing:

I know it's nothing new and every 3D printing nerd 😊 knows it - but for this design it's really very important:

  • let it cool down til room temperature
  • take your build plate from the printer bed
  • just bend your flexible build plate in x and y directions

This allows the dry boxes to be removed easily and safely without damaging the infill grid !!!
