The Pencil Organizer Mold originated as a practical assignment for the Digital Manufacturing Workshop 1 course at the University of Hurlingham (Buenos Aires), part of the Industrial Design degree program. The activity focused on the application and purpose of additive manufacturing technologies, in this case, 3D printing.

For its modeling, demolding angles were taken into account; the application of curvatures in its shape; and the simplification of its different parts, such as its joints at the ends, or the clamp edges to speed up the drying of the mixture.

The mixture used was a combination of Cardboard and Carpenter's Glue. Vinegar and flour/sawdust powder can be added to compact the mixture and apply a thin layer of oil to the mold to facilitate demolding.´

For applying the mixture, the content should be placed little by little, layer by layer, onto the male mold (the one with the extrusions), which is assembled with the two edge pieces, and then pressure should be applied. Repeat these steps until the shape of the mixture compacts with the female mold and no longer allows it to close.

The final mixture has a drying time of 24 hours, although it is recommended to let it dry a few more hours for its interior to dry completely and thus avoid breaking its base in half.

With final measurements of 18 cm long, 8 cm wide, and 4 cm deep; the mold becomes an option for organizing study materials and pencils 🧉
