Description
Introducing the world's first synchromagnetic modular model road conveyor belt!
Unlike traditional sprocket chain or belt drives, the ‘synchromagenetic drive’ utilises synchronised magnetic pull and shear forces in a low friction and modular channel.
The track channel and chain links are modular, permitting unique routes and scales, all of which would suit model railways or even Brick roads. The drive wheel may be motorised or hand cranked.
Design
The drive wheel contains pockets for magnets that remain in phase with the corresponding chain links - as the chain exits the wheel junction via the guide rail, it continues along the path while a link on the opposite side enters. As long the friction in the route is below the total shear force of in phase magnets on the wheel junction, the conveyor system will continue to rotate. This fully magnetic system means no gear or tooth wear, a quiet mechanism and the ability to make the conveyor ultra thin.
The model has been written in OpenSCAD and is fully parametric to suit various magnet sizes and road scales (Note: In order to meet the contest deadline, only basic parts for 1.5x6mm magnets have been initially uploaded and the parametric script will be uploaded after code clean up and minor refinements shortly).
