I propose a series of Maori/Polynesian style pendants, rich in cultural symbolism.

These pendants feature several characteristic elements, including:

  • Fishing hook (Makau or Hei Matau): The fishing hook, or makau, is an iconic symbol in Polynesian cultures. It represents prosperity, abundance, fertility, strength, and, above all, good luck and safety during journeys on the water.
  • Sea turtle (Honu): The sea turtle, or honu, is an important creature in all Polynesian cultures and symbolizes longevity, health, foundation, peace, and rest.
  • Manaia: The design incorporates elements of the Manaia, a spiritual guardian in Maori tradition believed to protect against evil spirits and act as a messenger between the earthly and spiritual worlds.

I printed them in 3 colors: PLA Basic beige (best result in my opinion), PLA Basic Gold and PLA Silk+ White, all from Bambu Lab. In the photos, I used a thin waxed cord (they are very resistant).

I placed them all on a single print plate; just keep the ones you want to print and remove the unwanted ones. If desired, the size can be varied from the slicer, as can the color.

The pendants, depicted in the photo, are as follows:

  1. Fishing hook pendant with fish
  2. Pendant combining the symbols of the fishing hook and a leaf or shoot (Koru), typical of Maori and Polynesian art
  3. Fishing hook-shaped pendant with turtle (Honu)
  4. The pendant is a Maori Pikorua, or "Maori twist". The symbol is often described as a "friendship pendant for two people" and represents the loyalty, friendship, care, forgiveness, and compromise necessary for strong relationships
  5. Carved crescent moon.
  6. The piece combines two important Maori symbols: the Hei Matau (fishing hook) and the Koru (the spiral shape resembling an unfurling fern).
  7. It incorporates a whale or a whale tail. Whales, called tohorā, are considered sacred creatures, guardians of tradition, and symbols of wisdom, strength, and connection to creation. They symbolize the mother, the ability to thrive in difficult situations, and ancestral wisdom. Furthermore, whales are seen as figures who guide humans.

If I see that the project is popular, I will upload many more beautiful Maori pendants.
