TypeH Toddler Viking Sword
Print Profile(1)

Description
A Toddler Vikig Sword! based on a Type H Viking-age find from Fedderingen.
The original artifact (8th–10th century Northern Germany) was measured and documented by Roland Warzecha (Dimicator) — many thanks to him for allowing me to use and adapt the measurements.
I have already built two full-sized historical fencing swords using these measurements, and this scaled version was created for my own little Viking / Shieldmaid.
The proportions remain as true as possible to the archaeological original but are adapted to fit to toddler size.
The design features a detachable TPU blade and historically structured hilt components (guard, grip, pommel, tang). All parts connect with a secure friction fit, though glue may be added if preferred.
Materials & Safety
This model is intended to be printed using food-safe materials from reputable manufacturers.
I recommend extrudr (Austria) due to their excellent certification transparency.
To ensure hygiene and reduce risk:
- Always use a fresh, unused nozzle
- Print hilt parts in ABS or another vapor-smoothable material
- Print the blade in TPU, which can be heat-smoothed (very gently with a heat gun)
- Designed for thermal stability — dishwasher-safe depending on material, vapor-smoothable (ABS), heat-smoothable (TPU)
Blade flexibility can be tuned using infill, pattern, and wall count.
Printing Notes
TPU Blade
- Shore hardness ~95A or lower recommended
- Print slow, high flow, low retraction
- Blade can be heat-smoothed to remove layer-line ridges
Rigid Hilt Components (ABS or similar)
- Vapor smoothing possible
- High infill and thick walls for durability
Rigid Blade Option
If printing the blade from a solid/rigid material instead of TPU:
- You may need to gently heat the tang area before inserting it into the hilt
OR - Slice the tang and blade together as one solid piece and print them as a single rigid component
Both prevent cracking and ensure a secure fit.
Important Disclaimer
3D-printed objects can never be guaranteed fully safe, especially for babies and toddlers.
Even when using food-safe materials, risks from micro-particles, residue, or contamination cannot be fully eliminated.
Use this model entirely at your own risk.
It is not recommended to redistribute, gift, this sword to others.
If the sword is not put into the mouth, the overall risk is significantly lower — but never zero.
Always supervise small children during play.
Features
- Based on an authentic Type H Fedderingen find
- Measurements courtesy of Roland Warzecha / Dimicator
- Scaled and adapted to fit for little Vikings and Shieldmaiden
- Safe detachable TPU blade
- Vapor- and heat-smoothable
- Dishwasher-friendly (material-dependent)
- Modular mounting system for future blades
Compatibility Notes & Upcoming Designs
This project uses a shared tang/mounting system, but:
- Not all blades fit all hilts
- Very wide blades (e.g., Renaissance styles) may not fit into the Viking guard slot
- Therefore, different hilt components exist for different blade types
Coming Soon:
A Renaissance-style cinquedea, using the same mounting concept but featuring its own dedicated hilt and crossguard to accommodate the broad blade profile.
Additional historically inspired designs will follow.
