Here it is pool players, the ultimate 8-ball or 9-ball rack. Styled after “Magic Racks” but this is my own design. It requires printing at a very high resolution (0.08mm) and a printer that is well maintained and finely “tuned” to print successfully. But once printed well, this rack works like a dream! It properly holds all the balls in an 8-ball or 9-ball rack for the perfect break every time. Make sure you use the suggested settings when printing for best results.
You MUST use a smooth PEI plate or this model simply won't work as intended.
I have only tested this model with PLA and it works great, but other filaments may work just as well or better. Let me know how it goes if you print with other filaments!
Print at:
.08mm layer height
.08mm first layer
Use ironing and adjust settings that work best for your printer and filament choice. Mine works best at
Top Surfaces
Rectilinear
Speed 60mm/s
Flow 30%
Line Spacing .16mm
Inset .24mm
I repeat: You MUST use a SMOOTH PEI plate or this will never work!
If your top surface isn't perfectly smooth (some of mine have minor imperfections if the filament isn't quite dry enough or anything goes even mildly wrong during printing) you can sand it down to smooth with sandpaper. I use 180 grit, then 400, then 1000 to get to a silky smooth top surface.
The print takes about 50 minutes and if it requires post-processing due to filament imperfections, that generally takes only a few minutes of sanding using the above grains of sandpaper. I hope you all enjoy this. If you are a pool player and like this model, check out all of my other pool-related models on my MakerWorld profile!
Please note: The second plate contains a Pool Prodigy branded version. This was created for a friend who owns my local pool hall. He uses these racks for all of his tables and the players LOVE them. They've survived many league nights and tournaments quite well and are quick and easy to replace in the event one gets damaged. Pool Prodigy is a small but growing pool brand (a pool hall and equipment sales - their Prodigy carbon fiber shafts are some of the very BEST I've ever tested, they also have shirts, gloves, cue claws and a variety of other pool accessories). So if you're a fan of the brand, you can use the second plate to print a Prodigy branded Q-rack.
