Description
Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot - faux-bronze statue 220 mm tall
This 220 mm high Faux-Bronze statue of Jacques Tati's creation "Monsieur Hulot" was printed on the Bambu Lab P2S in BBL Black PLA.
The print took over 19 hours, with settings of 0.08 mm HQ layer height for optimal quality, but that's only part of the story.
Before the final print could be executed, there were numerous prototypes made, in different sizes, with different printer settings.
Then another couple of hours for the pedestal and the name plate, which was printed in gold and black.
Countless hours went into sculpting the model in Meshmixer, and the base and plate in Onshape.
I kept the base as a separate model, since most printers are limited to around 250 mm in height.
The pedestal and the name plate are both optional, so I uploaded these individually.
With the pedestal, this statue is in total 260 mm high.
I “dry-painted” with a mix of Sap Green, Titanium White and Grey.
Then, after drying over night, rubbed everything down (gently) with a scotch pad and finished with a semi-gloss top coat.
Disclaimer:
There are A LOT OF SUPPORTS, and these are NEEDED !
An attempt to use only critical support resulted in spaghetti on the bottom of the jacket… after 10 hrs of print ;-(
The statue prints complete WITH A TINY PIPE in Hulot's mouth, try not to break it, when removing the supports ! ! !
DO NOT DOWNLOAD OR PRINT IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT IN YOUR PRINTER, FILAMENT AND/OR YOUR OWN SKILLS !
There is a full-size statue of Monsieur Hulot in Saint Marc, near Saint-Nazaire, France.
This is NOT a copy or a scan or whatever of this statue, but a humble hommage created by yours truly, to one of the greatest film directors, actors, and filmmakers that French cinema has ever witnessed: Monsieur Jacques “Hulot” Tati.
