Description

The Yaesu FT-290R all-mode 2m (144Mhz) transceiver (HAM) radio was first released in 1981 by Yaesu Musen. Designed as a portable, go-anywhere radio, it was originally sold with an optional shoulder strap for transport e.g. pedestrian mobile, SOTA, POTA and other portable radio operations.

The official should strap is very difficult to find (and expensive to purchase used or NOS if you do find one for sale). While not a direct replacement for the official shoulder strap (or indeed any luggage strap), I noticed there was a lack of a stand for the radio so it has to be propped up or laid on a surface directly.

I designed this stand to offer the option for use by simply clipping it on and swinging the bale 90 degrees down to prop the radio up to a comfortable height. In addition, you could theoretically use this stand as a carry handle (note I accept no responsibility for your use of this as a carry handle) so long as you're not bolting up and down mountains like Linford Christie, or taking your FT-290R out portable with you while doing Parkour or something! Gently does it.

Recommended to print this in PETG (with supports, and rotate the print 90 degrees so it prints flat rather than vertical) for the additional strength offered over PLA, particularly if you will be using the radio on the move or outdoors more often. You could also use PLA if you wish to.

Feel free to remix and share the design. I may revise the design in future to add eyelets for a camera strap to feed through. Comments and critiques welcomed! 73.

NOTE: The photos I used are from an earlier revision which was just a stand. The model uploaded here is longer and clears the dials on the front panel, thus can offer the potential for use a a temporary carry handle should you wish.
