Diver's Reel with Holding Plate for Unwinding

Conventional line reels with finger holes are often difficult to unroll smoothly when diving. In practice, therefore, a line is often passed through the center of the reel and combined with large washers to improve unwinding behavior. The reel variant presented here was developed based on this principle.
The reel has a central passage through which an elastic cord can be guided for fastening or transport. Additionally, a holding plate was integrated, allowing for controlled unwinding with one hand.
 

Structure
 

It is a two-part construction consisting of:

• Outer Reel (Holding Plate):
  Serves as a grip and support surface to keep the reel stable during unwinding.
• Inner Reel:
  One side is smooth to reduce friction during winding.
  The opposite side has grip recesses for better hold with wet or gloved fingers.

To prevent unintentional unwinding, recesses are provided on the outside and holes on the inside, through which a carabiner can be attached.

Variants

• Standard version: suitable for approx. 16 m line
• Large version: designed for approx. 40 m line
   

The inner reel has an integrated eyelet through which the line should be guided once. This prevents the line from completely slipping through when the reel is fully unwound.

Assembly

• Inner Reel: the two components are simply plugged together and should preferably be glued with cyanoacrylate (superglue).
• Outer Reel: Components are screwed together.
• Elastic cord: Guided through the central passage and secured with a thick knot (recommended on the smooth side of the inner reel).
