Description
Description
This adapter allows the mounting of a Manfrotto 501PL Quick Release System (e.g. https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0BTHVRRMQ) on a Skywatcher AZ-GTi mount.
I prefer the Manfrotto system because, compared to Vixen rails, it offers the advantage that the telescope cannot slide out forward during mounting – significantly safer for the camera and optics. For the smaller weights that the AZ-GTi can carry, Manfrotto is more than sufficient.
Features
- Compatible with AZ-GTi and Manfrotto 501PL QR adapters
- Compact, stable design
- Pre-formed M5 threads
Material Recommendation
I used PAHT-CF. Other materials with good layer adhesion and high dimensional accuracy are also suitable.
Pay attention to warping!
Print Settings
A modifier is inserted in Bambu Studio in the thread area so that the print parameters can be set to 100% infill only here. This is the area that needs to absorb force.
(These settings are not found in the attached CAD files.)
CAD AutoCAD Fusion
I have attached the AutoCAD Fusion file with all work steps and parameters. This makes it easily adaptable to a potentially different drilling pattern for other QR adapters.
Assembly
- Unscrew the original AZ-GTi Vixen adapter.
- Mount the 3D adapter to the AZ-GTi with M4 × 16 countersunk screws.
- QR adapter: countersink existing holes in the QR adapter.
- Secure the QR adapter with M5 × 16 zinc screws.
- The M5 threads in the 3D print are pre-formed and can be screwed directly with good strength.
