Description
1997 Mercedes Sprinter 2.9L T1N
Intake Air Temperature Sensor Relocator
A common and recurring problem with early models of the 2.9-liter, 5-cylinder T1N Mercedes Sprinter is fouling of the intake air temperature sensor (original part number 651 153 00 28), resulting in a Check Engine Light warning and the engine running in Limp Home Mode (reduced power).
The issue can be solved by either cleaning or replacing the sensor, or… relocating it so that it can't be contaminated ever again.
So I designed this bracket in Onshape, that will fit over the original air intake hose, very close to the original location, so that the original wiring harness doesn't need modification. I added some slots so that air can flow in and out to prevent overheating of the air inside a closed compartment. I printed the adaptor in BBL PETG-HF.
The only extras you'll need are some 5mm nuts and bolts, and another sensor, as the original one has to stay in place, to prevent an air leak in the hose.
I also made a little cap in TPU, that will fit over the connector of the “old” sensor so that the (no longer used) electrical contacts keep clean, if ever you decide to return to the original connection.
By downloading and using this model you agree to do this AT YOUR OWN RISK, as I won't take responsibility in case your engine would malfunction, of suffer any kind of damage.
After installation I made an extensive test drive and everything worked perfectly in my 1997 T1N van, but I cannot possibly guarantee that this will also be the case for your vehicle!
