Description

A small lock-box in classic star wars style. Inspired by a starwars med bay, i designed this for use as a small medicine cabinet… but can be used for just about anything with its adjustable or removable interior shelf. I got a bit carried away designing greeblies, so i decided to make them into magnetic panels that are interchangeable and attach to the sides. Perfect addition to any starship for storing emergency Bacta canisters on long trips across the galaxy, easily recognisable with its iconic red sigil.

The lock mechanism itself uses an off the shelf RFID lock unit available on amazon https://amzn.eu/d/7kzkB06

To get it to work with the RFID version of Kleya's lock pick (available here https://makerworld.com/en/models/1435863-kleya-s-lockpick-from-andor-season-2#profileId-1493774 ) you have to make a slight modification to the RFID. The stock unit comes with some cards which the lock is pre-programmed to work with. If you take the front off of the unit, there is a button on the board which can be used to reprogram the RFID to a custom tag. The modified lock pick model is designed to use these MIFARE classic tags https://amzn.eu/d/eR05FAG . Holding down the button inside the unit will allow you to present your new tag and reprogram it. Be careful not to disturb the gear mechanism, and make sure it is still properly aligned before you close the unit up again.

The USB cable https://amzn.eu/d/eBCnpyw is purely to be used incase the batteries go dead whilst the box is closed. Applying power to the USB port will allow you open the box and replace the batteries. I have also found that there is some variation between the RFID units themselves and the tolerances of the interfacing locking mechanism, to get around this I have included a simple 1mm spacer to allow you raise up the locking pin if it doesn't engage properly, just scale it as much as you need.

There are screw holes in the RFID unit but I just glued it into place. Make sure the RFID side is pointing outwards and the battery door facing inwards.

The door is made of two parts, the front panel insert and the frame. Because of the size of the front panel insert, there isn't space to use the normal prime tower, you need to deactivate rib wall and then change the tower width to 20mm and place it to the side.

*I will upload the face plate in a separate profile as the different prime tower setup causes conflict errors*

You will also need some 5x50mm steel dowel pins for the hinges, these are also available on amazon https://amzn.eu/d/j3Do7m9 Once you are happy with the assembly they should push into place with a snug friction fit. Don't push them in unill you're happy with the rest of the assembly as you wont be able to get them out again.

Materials needed:

  • RFID Lock Unit
  • 5x50mm Stainless steel dowel pin x2
  • Mifare Classic RFID tag
  • USB C Cable
  • H2D
  • 10x2mm magnets x24 (4 for each panel and 8 in the main unit)

Colours used:

  • Bone White Matte PLA
  • Silver Basic PLA
  • Nardo Grey Matte PLA
  • Dark Grey Basic PLA
  • Bronze Basic PLA
  • Charcoal Matte PLA
  • Scarlet Red Matte PLA
  • Dark Red Matte PLA
  • Sunflower Yellow Basic PLA
  • Light Grey Basic PLA
  • Red Translucent PLA
  • Cobalt Blue Basic PLA
  • Support for PLA (new version)

The .3mf files uploaded are coloured as seen in the photos and use support for PLA, so you would need to change the support settings if you don't want to use full contact support filament.

Naturally, due to the size of this model, it's only suitable for the H2D, and was really designed around the use of the dual nozzle system.

It is particularly important to ensure the PLA is dried before printing, especially with the larger parts, wet, brittle filament will break in the PTFE tubes as the print head makes repeated movements around the extremities of the print area and lead to clogs (ask me how i know…).

There are also versions of this model where you can just glue on the side panels rather than using magnets, as well as versions that stand alone rather than mounting to a wall. I will upload these as separate profiles.

The wall mounting fixture is a simple block with bevelled edges that allows the box to be slid into place and secured with a locking block so it cant be removed while closed.
