Description

I designed a mold to reproduce the silicone rubber tread of suitcase wheels by injection molding.

The original wheel serves as the core insert, around which silicone rubber is cast. For the injection of the silicone rubber, I used a standard 20 ml syringe, which fits into a port on the mold.

To help with the removal of the wheel after hardening, I designed a handle that allows to twist the two parts apart, even without using a demolding agent. The mold is also fully reusable for subsequent castings.

I used RESION Silicone Rubber with a Shore A hardness of 40, which should provide enough rigidity under light loads.

Each wheel requires approximately 30 mL of silicone.

I also provide a 3D scan of the original suitcase wheels in the files if you want to try it yourself.
