Updates: The Wait is Over!! NANAKATANA XL is here

🆕 Update Notice for Previous Version Users (2025 Nov 17)

Thanks to feedback from makers who printed Nanakatana V2, this model has now been updated with refined dimensions for a stronger and smoother mechanism.

The following parts have been adjusted and improved:

  • Peel cap gear– enlarged gear module for higher strength and smoother torque transfer
  • Peel Stick – enlarged gear module for higher strength and smoother torque transfer

If you printed the older version, you may notice the new revision operates smoother and more durable.
Reprinting the updated parts and Peel Cap together is recommended for the best experience.

Nanakatana V2 – Twist-to-Open Banana Katana

An easier, smarter evolution of the banana sword.
Many users found the Banananife fun but tricky to assemble — so this version was designed to be simpler, cleaner, and entirely magnet-free.
Nanakatana V2 replaces the old peel-by-hand cap with a 60° twist-to-open stem, which smoothly opens the peel cap and lets the banana blade swing out like a collapsible katana.

🧠 Concept / Inspiration

This design brings together the Banananife’s clever peel-opening motion and the Nanakatana’s playful form.
I wanted to create a banana sword that anyone can assemble easily, without magnets, glue, or tuning.
By twisting the banana stem, the internal cam unlocks the peel cap — turning the fruit into a toy katana with pure printed mechanics.

⚙️ Features & Mechanism

  • Twist-to-open stem: rotate 60° to open the peel cap and deploy the blade.
  • No magnets or glue required: fully mechanical printed structure.
  • Simpler assembly: redesigned joints and tolerances for a smoother build experience.
  • Compact but scalable: ~35 cm at default scale, can be enlarged freely.
  • All-printed parts: prints and assembles without any hardware.

🖨️ Print Profile (Recommended)

  • Material: PLA (all parts)
  • Layer Height: 0.2 mm  Nozzle: 0.4 mm
  • Supports: manual — enable only where necessary
  • Support Interface: 4–5 top interface layers for easier removal
  • Wall Generation: Arachne
  • Assembly: snap-fit only, no glue or hardware

🧩 Print & Troubleshooting Tips

  • Supports: remove carefully around interface layers to avoid deforming snap features.
Apply PLA/PETG support material on the support top interface layers to ensure a clean and smooth surface finish.
  • Scaling: when scaling up, check clearances, as snap-fit tolerances scale linearly but material behavior can vary.

🌟 Why It’s Special

Nanakatana V2 keeps the fun of the original banana sword but with smarter geometry and smoother assembly.
It’s a showcase of how good design can simplify mechanics — transforming a meme into an elegant, fully 3D-printed toy 🍌⚔️

Nanakatana V2 – Reinforced Gear Upgrade
this is so fricking cool! ive already made two but I lost the first one. anyways I printed it with sunlu pla+ white and yellow, and then since I got some paint markers for Christmas and since I really like this print I painted it to look like a real one. I think I made it to rotten, but from far away it fooled my brother for a real one 😆. there was one issue with the three little pieces connected to the twisty part but that was only on the first one and the first one I made with translucent pla so it was probably just a filament thing. and like they say, nothing a little glue can't fix! well, thats enough of me yapping. thank for this amazing print bro 👍

Thank you so much for the boost and the awesome story! 😄🍌 Painting it to look like a “real” banana and fooling your brother — that’s legendary 🤣 And your photos look amazing too, I’m gonna pin them up so others can admire your work! Really glad you enjoyed the print (even if one banana escaped 😆). Thanks again bro — happy printing!

After printing the standard size, my Son asked for a larger version..enter the mega nakatakana! Printed at 2.5x scale on a H2D! This thing is HUGE, and could have gone up to 2.85x but didn't have enough yellow filament

I love this banana sword so much—I even went out to buy real bananas just to take photos with it! 🍌 Before I tried assembling it, the original assembly video left me a bit confused… But after I actually built it, I realized it makes more sense once you’ve gone through the process. I looked around on YouTube for a clearer guide, and this one finally helped me understand it: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/iemT7EBGXlE Thank you for creating such a fun and creative design—I really enjoyed building it!

hi, it seems like the upper and lower part is offset, this probably because something wrong with the x y movement , you might need to check your printer x,y axis belt tension, if everything good thn add outer brims 10mm
