Tired of flimsy boxes? Try my Print in Place Toolbox! It's a super-durable design, stress-tested for weeks in my workshop. It prints all in one piece (hinges included!) and with ZERO SUPPORTS. It features a magnetic closure (for 2x2mm magnets) and you can choose from 2 versions: a smooth one or a profile for two-color prints. It's the perfect solution for organizing your small parts. Download the file and try it!
I'd like to present a project that was born almost by accident! Sometimes the best insights come from the unexpected: this toolbox is a direct evolution of my previous Oral-B toothbrush holder design.
After a print failure, I realized that the outer shell, when stripped of its internal components, had enormous potential as a robust and versatile container. I therefore reworked it, optimized it, and transformed it into this multi-purpose toolbox.
The real strength of this design is that it's a Print-in-Place.
You don't need to assemble anything! The file is designed to be printed all in one piece, including the hinges. Once the print is finished, just break the hinges free (a firm movement will do) and your box is ready to use. I have personally printed and tested these boxes, using them intensively in my workshop for several weeks: they have brilliantly passed their "field stress test", proving to be incredibly durable and reliable for everyday use!
đ§°Key Features
- Print-in-Place: No assembly, no screws.
- Magnetic Closure: I've added two small slots for 2x2mm neodymium magnets (one in the body and one in the lid) to ensure a secure and satisfying closure.
- Internal Dimensions: The large internal volume of approximately 200x50x20mm (7.87x1.97x0.98 inch) makes it incredibly versatile.
- Two Versions Available: You can choose between:
- A version with a raised outer profile (ideal for two-color prints, like the blue and orange one shown in the photos).
- A version with a smooth, continuous surface (perfect for single-color prints and a more minimalist look, like the "stress-tested" blue box).
It's perfect as a small parts container, a travel case for small items, a desk organizer, or for anything else you can think of.
âď¸ Recommended Print Settings
- Material: PLA or PETG (PLA Matte Bambulab Dark Blue used for my project)Â
- Layer Height: 0.2mm (or 0.28mm for a faster print)
- Infill: %15-20
- Supports: The design is optimized to print with minimum supports
