Description
09/05/2026 update : this model is now rated “X2D compatible” !
As I do not plan to use the USB socket on top of my P2S very often, I prefer covering it from dust and debris.
Lots of models are already existing to plug the un-used hole, but they are mostly really small/tiny (I am sure I will lost it the day I will have to remove it to use a USB drive…) or not convenient (not so easy to remove with short fingernails).
And I was not sold on their look, but that's subjective.
So I made this small (4grams) and quick (21min) model: it covers the hole when not used, but the cap can slide away when you want to plug anything to the USB port, so no more loose part.
There is a gap below the sliding tab to be sure it will not damage the finish of the printer top panel when used.
The opening for the drive is 14x24mm which should suit most of the USB drive
Assembly is simple :
- insert the sliding tab inside the plate (the grooves from the tab should be on the same side than the chamfer on the plate), and check that the movement is smooth (there are small locking index on the open/closed position to make it stay in place)

- optionnal (only for aesthetic reasons) : glue the small background cover at the back of the plate

- use double side tape on back surface to install it on top or your printer

There should be no limit for the material to be used : PLA, PETG, PLA Glow in the dark…
I have shared my carbon effect profile in case you like that effect too!
04/12/2025 : new Version V2 released, cosmetic changes only. The outer shape has been slightly adapted to the printer edge radius (Bambu Lab is using G2 styling radius in this area). I have also tweaked the position of each part in the print profiles to align the patterns when using the carbon effect build plate.
